More comments on good things happening in the greater Pelican area

State parks are among top touristsites in state–including Maplewood

State Parks have 32 of the top 50 spots for tourism visits statewide.

In the Central Area,  Lake Carlos State Park is number 3, Maplewood State Park is number 6, and Glendalough State Park near Battle Lake is number  10. Meanwhile, Grand Casino Mille Lacs has the top spot, and Brainerd International Raceway is number 4 and they are the only non-state park attractions in the top ten.

In the NW region the only top ten tourist attraction that is not a state park is the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead at #9.

Pelican Rapids considers itself “The Gateway to Maplewood State Park,” which reported a new record in 2016–with more than 144,000 visitors.

Statewide, there were 10 million state park visitors.

Four-day school week identified as positive for Pelican area families

Several readers have identified the Pelican Rapids School District’s four-day school week schedule as one of the “good things” happening in the Pelican area.

Pelican city parks create natural, scenic flow to downtown business district

Our family really enjoys heading into Pelican Rapids, visiting old friends and new in the businesses. This past summer we loved kayaking on the river and eating ice cream while sitting on the deck, overlooking the dam and Mill Pond.  On Broadway benches, cafe tables and chairs arranged by the flower filled planters, welcomed us all to rest a minute and breathe. Our park seems to flow out to the wide sidewalks, creating a beautiful walking mall. Music from the Chamber of Commerce speakers add a festive spirit!

We say thanks to the business people and community members who make these improvements possible.
