Shakespeare spoof put new Pelican auditorium–and theater students–in spotlight

The new Fine Arts Auditorium at the Pelican Rapids High School campus is poised to become a “signature” asset for the lakes area.

Great audiences enjoyed two performances last weekend, staged by the school theater department and local students.  The spoof on Shakespeare was a delight; and involved nearly 50 cast members, volunteers and stage hands.

At the conclusion of the matinee Sunday, director David  Brown introduced the three high school seniors involved in the “I Hate Shakespeare” comedy.  By introducing the three spring 2017 graduates, Brown pointed out that the loss of only three students means there will be some great local theater–by local students–over  next few years.

Pelican area attributes outlined in brochure to lure new school superintendent

In a pamphlet developed in conjunction with the search for a new Pelican Rapids school superintendent, these positive attributes were listed to highlight the school and community:

Community: Pelican is in the heart of Minnesota’s lake country, with more than 1,000 lakes in Otter Tail County. The area’s economy is fueled by its strong agriculture, tourism, and industry.  A variety of retail and unique shops and professional services are available locally.

School:  A small school setting, but with student access to advance placement courses, college in the high school, and after-school enrichment activities.

• Every student in grades 9-12 has a new laptop computer, allowing for virtual learning experiences tied to real-world situations.

• School has fully implemented the “Leader in Me” program, across all grades.

• School district’s students and staff fully embrace and celebrate diversity.
