Keith Ordale Grefsrud was born in Fergus Falls, MN, on May 27, 1935 to the parents of Kermit & Orphie (Honrud) Grefsrud. He was one of four children. He grew up in rural Minnesota, attending Pelican High. He later attended and graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead, earning a bachelor’s degree in science.

On October 11, 1958, he married Dian LaVonne (Toso) Grefsrud, together they had two children, Robin and Rhonda. In 1963, their family moved to California, where they had resided since. 

He worked as a history/geography teacher and probation officer while concurrently serving as an officer in the Air Force Reserves.

After retirement in 1996, he volunteered at Mission Trails Golf Course, to support his love of all things golf. He and his wife also fulfilled their desire to visit Norway, home to their family’s heritage.

He was an active member of All Saints Lutheran church since 1966, even serving as a member of the church council on numerous occasions.

He enjoyed conversation, golf, history, religion, and politics.

He is predeceased by his wife Dian, who was lost to him following the celebration of their 51st wedding anniversary. 

He is survived by his two daughters, Robin Perna and Rhonda Grefsrud; six grandchildren, Andrena Geiler, Anthony Perna, Alissa Lay, Daphnnee Johnson, Heidi Elliott, & Samuel Elliott; six great grandchildren, Robbie, Jaxon, Atticus, Preston, Hunter, & Chevelle. He is also survived by his three siblings, Gerald Grefsrud, Roger Grefsrud, and Anita Klamm.

He will be remembered, with love, as a good man who was slow to anger and quick to forgive.

“Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:43.

A memorial service will be held on July 27 at 1 p.m. at All Saints Lutheran Church in San Diego, CA.

His ashes will be placed next to his wife at Hamar Cemetery in Rothsay, MN.
