June Maxine (Thompson) McBirnie, 95, died Thursday, January 21, 2021, at the Town & Country Senior Living Center in Santa Ana, CA. June was born June 18, 1925 in Rothsay, MN to Charley and Tillie (Olson) Thompson. She attended country school in rural Rothsay, MN and in Pelican Rapids.

She moved to California in 1949. She was a professional executive secretary for years where she was in charge of organizing events for visiting executives. She loved singing in choir and taught various Bible study groups which led to her desire to become a speaker. She belonged to Toastmasters for years and won an award in a state competition. This led to numerous speaking engagements. Her favorite places to speak were at church events.

She met her future husband at United Community Church in Glendale, CA who was the pastor there. She thoroughly enjoyed being a pastor’s wife. After her husband retired, they moved to Santa Ana, CA to be close to the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) studio where they both were frequent guests. She and her husband traveled frequently to the Holy Land where Dr. Mac would lead the tour groups and June would organize the travel arrangements and the trip’s itinerary.

They desired to be close to family in MN so they purchased land on Franklin Lake and built a beautiful home. They spent every summer there where she oohed and awed at each sunset shimmering across the lake. She attended the local Zion Lutheran Church whenever she was in MN.

June loved to entertain family and friends by putting on elaborate extended family reunions. She was known for her themed special events and enjoyed hosting family members who loved to fish – especially when they caught “sunnies” and perch, her favorites.

She loved decorating and her elaborate homes gave testimony to that. She enjoyed shopping and blessed whomever accompanied her. She was the glamour queen of the family and was always the finest dressed person in the room.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Tillie Thompson; husband, Dr. William McBirnie; twin brother, Juel Thompson of St. Charles, MN; brother-in-law, Bill Albright, Jr; and sister-in-law, Mrs. Lucy Limesand.

She is survived by her sisters, Florance Thompson of Fergus Falls, MN, and Georgie-Ann (Bill) Albright of Pelican Rapids, MN; a brother Charley/Tom (Elaine) Thompson of Walnut Creek, CA; a sister-in-law, Arline (Juel) Thompson of St. Charles, MN; a brother-in-law, Roger Thompson of Underwood, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
