Cynthia Ann Peterson of Pelican Rapids died on November 12th, 2021 at Essentia Health in Fargo, North Dakota, after a brief battle with cancer. Cynthia left this world on the same date she came into it. She was 63 years old.
The daughter of Gary and Mary Carol Peterson, Cynthia grew up in Pelican Rapids and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1977. She attended Fergus Falls Community College and started her career as a chemical dependency counselor through programs sponsored by the State of Minnesota, with an emphasis on helping women to recover from addiction. Cynthia’s calling was to care for those in need. After her father passed away, she moved in with her mother, caring for and enabling her to remain in her longtime home.
She was an avid reader, loved to garden, creating intricate rock gardens, and could spot a stunning rock among hundreds. She made the most delicious homemade jams and pies. She loved being in nature and was committed to organic gardening, reusing, recycling and leaving this planet a better place for future generations. Her greatest loves were her two children.
Cynthia leaves behind her grieving children. Peter Barnett, and his wife Holly, of Two Harbors, Minnesota, and Jacqueline Fairbanks of Duluth, Minnesota. She is also survived by her mother, Mary Carol Peterson, and siblings Julie Barsness, Sarah Norton, and Gary Edward Peterson, along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many cousins and friends in Minnesota and across the nation. She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Gary Peterson.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 27th at 1 pm at Grove Lake Lutheran Church in rural Pelican Rapids.
