Dee was born January 9, 1931 in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
She attended Country School District 48 until her family moved into town. While attending Pelican Rapids High School, Dee worked at the Uptown Cafe on Main Street. At the age of 18, Dee moved to Hibbing, MN to work for JCPenney, where she met her husband, Bob W. Gamelgaard. They were married at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, MN where Dee had sung in the choir in her youth. Dee and Bob returned to Hibbing, MN where their only child, Wanda Lynn, was born.
In 1957 the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona where Dee continued her 20 plus years employment with JCPenney. As a family, they struggled to start their own family business and since 1968 Bob & Dee owned Quality Auto & Fleet Service, Inc. which is now operated by their daughter. Dee retired from JCPenney in 1975 and chose to fulfill her love for children by working at her church day care and at Fairlane Bowling Child Care until her final retirement. Dee and Bob enjoyed exploring the beautiful state of Arizona that they both grew to love.
They enjoyed spending weekends at their mobile home in Prescott, AZ where the pine trees would remind them of their Minnesota roots.
Later years were spent flying in their private aircraft to various destinations, especially enjoying Sunday visits to Sedona, AZ and fondly recalling the time Bob flew them into Pelican’s Lyon’s Field to attend a family wedding! Dee was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, who filled our lives with love, laughter, faith and good food! Dee loved her home, cooking, baking, reading, gardening, music and travel. Dee was an active member of the Penneys’ 251 Club, she taught Sunday School, served in several board positions for the ALCW Bible Study group, cooked for numerous church hospitality committees and served on Alter Guild with her daughter.
Dee was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Bob; son-in-law Mike; and many dear family members.
Dee is survived by daughter, Wanda; grandson, Justin; sisters, Betty Boen, Maxine Ballard, Ellen Haugrud; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held in Phoenix, AZ on Feb. 19, 2018.
