Minnesota’s 2026 midterm election cycle officially begins Tuesday, Feb. 3, as major political parties hold precinct caucuses across the state.

Meetings are scheduled to begin promptly at 7 p.m., though attendees are encouraged to arrive early for registration.

Precinct caucuses are neighborhood-level meetings run by the state’s political parties, including the DFL and Republican parties. At these gatherings, neighbors will elect local party officers, select delegates for future conventions to endorse candidates for state and federal offices (including governor), and debate resolutions for party platforms.

Unlike a primary election where voting takes place privately throughout the day, caucuses are in-person meetings conducted at a specific time.

How to Find Your Location

Caucus locations are determined by the political parties and often differ from regular polling places. Residents should not assume their location is the same as previous years.

To find your specific caucus location:

Online: Visit the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Caucus Finder at caucusfinder.sos.mn.gov

By Phone: Residents without internet access can contact their county auditor’s office or state party headquarters for assistance.

Under Minnesota law, public meetings and state college classes are generally prohibited after 6 p.m. on caucus night to encourage participation.
