Petra E. Klug

Petra Emelia Anderson Klug, 110, passed away on November 21, 2024 at Southwest Healthcare in Bowman, North Dakota.
Petra was born July 4, 1914 to Norwegian immigrant parents Alex and Minnie (Peterson) Anderson, the second of four girls. They lived south of Rhame, North Dakota. Petra attended country school for eight years and graduated from the Rhame, High School. She attended Aberdeen Business School for seven months. She worked in homes during high school for room and board and then was employed in Bowman at the Derby Land Office and later at the Farmers Union.
On October 14, 1941 Petra married Bruno Klug, a farmer in Slope County. She lived on the Klug farm for 77 years before moving to Southwest Healthcare in 2019 at age 104. Bruno died in 1975 leaving Petra and Dale to manage the farm. Three children were born to the couple: Bonnie, Dale and Linda all now in their 80's. Petra has 5 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Petra participated in and had leadership roles in many community and church organizations. These included 4-H, Farmers Union, Sunshine Homemakers, Garden Club, Senior Citizens, Sons of Norway, Bowman Lutheran Church, Quilters, Sunday School Teacher and Bible Studies, and the Mineral Springs School and Township.
Baking and afternoon coffee were a must.
She always had a big garden and planted four shelter belts. She loved the Hereford cattle and named each one. Writing letters and receiving mail was a daily experience. She kept a diary, worked on family history and read many books. Quilting began at age 60 after her husband died. Each grandchild and great grandchild was gifted a hand-quilted quilt.Many friends also received these special quilts. She also tatted, did embroidery and crocheted. Travel led her to Norway five times and to many states from Alaska to Washington, DC.
Petra is survived by her children: Bonnie McGregor, Pelican Rapids, MN, Dale Klug, Bowman, ND, Linda (Dave) Shelver Bottineau, ND. Grandchildren: Jeff (Danielle) Skjelver, their children Thor, Elizabeth and Alaric. Jaque (Robert) Marum, their children Aria, Tye and Emerson. Jennifer (Nick Corson) McGregor, their children Mikko and Lily; Beth (Jarvis Frederick) McGregor, their children Emelia, Kurt and Eliza. Karin (Ottar Dahl) McGregor, their children Lydia and Lelah., many nieces and nephews.
Petra was preceded in death by her husband: Bruno, parents: Alex and Minnie (Peterson) Anderson; siblings: Agnes Gelino, Hazel Cashmore, and Eleanor Green, and son-in-law Jon McGregor.
