Sigrid Linda (Branstead) Rivington, age 76, resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on January 31, 2024, at her residence near Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
Sigrid Linda Branstead was born April 17, 1947, in Berkeley, California. She has always loved horses, singing, and cooking.
Sigrid Linda graduated from Berkeley High School in 1965 and on July 30, 1966, she married Steven Wiezorek in Eureka, California. They had two children, then divorced. Sigrid Linda attended the University of California while working full time at a laboratory in Richmond Ca. She then moved with her children to Pelican Rapids, Minnesota and bought her first Arabian horse. As a second generation Norwegian-American, she fit comfortably into the Pelican Rapids community. She worked as a laboratory technician at the Pelican Rapids Clinic.
In 1989, she married Marvin Tweeton. In addition to farming and raising horses, Sigrid Linda earned a license from the State of Minnesota to provide Foster Care for mentally ill adult men (and occasionally women) on their 200-acre farm. Marvin died 12 years later in 2001. Sigrid Linda continued raising horses and a herd of red Angus cattle and continued to provide foster care. In 2006, she was named "Provider of the Year."
On the Norwegian Independence Day, May 17, 2009, she married an Englishman, David Rivington, who shared her love of the outdoors and fostering.
She studied music and voice for ten years; with her lyric soprano voice she sang in numerous operas and musical events. She organized the Centennial Choir for Pelican Rapids Centennial celebration, including singing and musical events. She was a leader of Girls and Cub Scouts, a member of Job's Daughters International, and former president of Central Lutheran Church Council and choir director.
Another passion is cooking. Sigrid Linda always made recipes her very own.
She is survived by her husband David; her children: Samantha (Jeffrey) Cunningham and Christopher (Melissa) Wiezorek; three grandsons: Charles Baanna, Alexander Wiezorek, Nicholas (Brianna) Wiezorek; sisters: Kare Hislop and Shelley (Ron) Calkins; and four nieces.
She is preceded in death by her parents Winfield and Edna Branstead and second husband Marvin Tweeton.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 1-2 pm with Celebration of Life at 2:00 pm at Central Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota with Pastor Phil Tobin officiating.
