The Pelican Rapids Vikings traveled to Menahga September 12.

The Vikings came into this game knowing it would be a scrappy battle, which is exactly what it turned out to be. This match-up was a great one with many long, exciting rallies. The Vikings started a little slow, struggling with serve receiving. This caused us to be out of system, which increased our error percentage at the net.

The Vikings made some big plays but just gave away too many unearned points and lost a close set one, 24-26.

Set two, we knew we needed to settle down, set our feet, and pass better. Serve receivers Morgan Korf and Claudia Gurath did a great job getting us in system, and our hitters started to get in sync.

Middle hitter Anna Roisum had a huge night at the net with 18 kills as the Braves had a hard time slowing her down. Setter Ellie Welch did a good job of feeding Roisum, and the Vikings won set two, 25-19.

Set three, Arianna Hovland started the set with a great serving run, and the Vikings continued to hit well as outside hitter Marie Backstrom had a few key kills for us to get our offense rolling.

The Braves, however, were also speeding up their offense, and our block was struggling to close on their pin hitters. The Braves had a few big runs, but luckily earning the point on two hard-fought long rallies really built some confidence for the Vikings, winning set three, 25-18.

Set four was another back-and-forth battle. The Braves found an open spot on our court that they kept attacking as we struggled to adjust. We, however, did answer well at the net. We passed the ball well, and our front row stayed aggressive, with Right side hitter Zayla Arrow adding a couple of key kills. We also went after them on the service line to get them out of system as much as possible.

The Viking won set four with a score of 25-20.
