Pelican Rapids ends their season with an overall record of 14-14

The Pelican Rapids boys basketball team’s season came to an end in the quarterfinal round of the section 8AA playoffs on Monday night in Thief River Falls.

The #1 seeded Prowlers took control late in the first half as they busted open a tight game to take a 38-26 lead at the half. They were able to increase their lead to as much as twenty-six points in the second half, but the Vikings put one more push together to cut the deficit to eleven with a couple of minutes to go.

They would get no closer, however, as Thief River Falls advances to the semifinals with a 78-63 win over Pelican Rapids.

“It is always tough when a season comes to an end, but we were proud of how hard our guys played tonight and how they kept fighting all the way to the end of the game,” head coach John Gullingsrud commented. “Thief River Falls is the top seed for a reason, as they have a talented group that plays with toughness and physicality, and they eventually wore us down tonight. We had some missed opportunities in the first half and gave up too many offensive rebounds overall, and you just can’t do that with a team as good on offense as they are. This was an awesome group of kids to coach this season, led by a great group of seniors that will definitely be missed!”

Leading scorers on the night for Pelican Rapids were Ian Fahje with 15, Charlie Larson with 13, and Treyvon Benson with 12.

Four Prowlers were in double figures as Jake Friedrich had 18, Jack Manning and Caleb Rosendahl both had 17, and Jack Rosendahl finished with 15.
