The Pelican Rapids girls basketball team traveled to Underwood Jan. 3 to take on the Rockets in a non-conference match-up. 

The Vikings came up short 47-41. 

“This was a physical game for us and I thought we picked up our intensity throughout the game,” said coach Brian Korf. 

At halftime, the Rockets led the Vikings 30-19.

Pelican Rapids scored 22 points in the second half and held Underwood to 17 second-half points. 

Pelican Rapids shot 34% from the field, and Underwood shot 39%. At the free throw line, Pelican Rapids went 2 for 2 at the line and Underwood went 4 for 4. “We need to get to the free throw line more,” commented coach Korf. 

Ellie Welch and Morgan Korf were both in double digits for scoring with 13 and 10 points to lead the Vikings. Hazel Haugrud contributed 7 points. Kelsey Isaman contributed 6 points, and Anna Roisum scored 5 points. 

Isaman led the Vikings with 11 rebounds, and Welch had 10 rebounds to earn her a double-double (13 points and 10 rebounds). 

Korf, Welch, and Claudia Gurath each had 2 assists. Haugrud and Korf led the Vikings with 2 steals. 

 “We need to learn from this game to help us get better,” said coach Korf.
