The Pelican Rapids girls basketball team opened up the Minnesota National Bank Holiday Classic with Lake Park Audubon. 

The Vikings defeated the Raiders 46-35. 

“We struggled offensively in the first half and then we started to find our offensive rhythm late in the second half,” said coach Brian Korf. 

Both teams struggled offensively in the first half as both teams were tied at 19 at halftime. 

In the second half, the Vikings outscored the Raiders 27-16. 

“We were pleased with our offensive effort in the second half and were pleased with our defensive effort the entire game,” said coach Korf. 

Pelican Rapids shot 26.6% from the field, while Lake Park-Audubon shot 26.1%. The Vikings shot 12 for 24 (50%) from the free throw line, and the Raiders were 66.7% (6 for 7) from the line. 

“We did a nice job of getting to the free throw line tonight,” said coach Korf.

Leading the Vikings in scoring was Morgan Korf with 13 points, Anna Roisum with 12 points, and Ellie Welch with 10 points. Isaman scored 6 points, Grace Backstrom had 3 points, and Hazel Haugrud had 2 points. 

Welch and Korf led the Vikings with 12 and 10 rebounds, while Isaman grabbed 9 rebounds and Roisum had 7. 

Korf led the team with 7 assists and 3 steals. Isaman, Haugrud, and Backstrom had 2 steals each for the Vikings. 

“Our defense was solid the whole game and we will continue to improve offensively,” said coach Korf.
