Pelican Rapids High School students have had various opportunities to learn more about area colleges and careers on recent field trips, as reported by high school principal Laura Januszewski and student representative Sylvia Pesh at the Nov. 16 school board meeting.

Mr. Marsh and Mr. Larsen took students to Alex-Tech, Alexandria, to tour the campus and learn more about their programming.

Ten students traveled to the University of Minnesota Morris with Mr. Witzig and Mr. Sturdevant to learn about sustainability and renewable energy. In addition to touring the campus’s wind turbines, solar panels, and biomass plant, they had the opportunity to tour West Central Research Center and a local carrot processing plant, Fresha LLC.

Students from Mrs. King’s accounting and computer applications class visited the Microsoft campus in Fargo. Students toured campus facilities and heard from a panel of Microsoft employees about careers in the tech industry, ranging from sales to software development.

Mrs. Thompson and Miss Dunbar took students to Lake Region Electrical Coop to learn about the types of career tracks available there, and some general do’s and don’ts for applying to jobs.
