The Viking cross country teams have been busy the past two weeks with meets at Bluestem Amphitheater in Moorhead, and Ada-Borup.

The MSUM Twilight, hosted by the MSUM Dragons on September 9, brings regional high school and college teams together for a night of cross country. The high school teams kick off the meet, and the college teams conclude the night’s events with races after sunset.

Earning the Viking Grit awards were Philip Kleinschmidt and Aleeya Stringer-Ferris. Both took significant time off their previous best marks and continue to show signs of further gains in meets to come.

Charlie Larson also highlighted the meet with his seventh-place finish and personal best time of 16:30, 14 seconds faster than his fastest time last year of 16:44. Larson paced the rest of the varsity boys’ team to the best showing of the season will all five scoring members running sub-20:00 5ks.

Sylvia Pesch led the girls’ team with her 21:23 time and top 50 performance. Pesch was just seconds off her personal best time set last year.
