The Pelican Rapids Vikings traveled to Breckenridge Sept. 15 for the second conference match-up of the season.

The Vikings had just matched up with the Cowgirls Saturday at the Pelican Rapids Invitational and split with them in two tight sets, so we knew this could be a good tight battle.

The Cowgirls came out serving aggressively, and the Vikings really struggled to get our offense going.

Pelican had some ball control issues, and the strong blocker of the cowgirls took advantage. The Vikings just could not get into any kind of offensive rhythm and lost set one, 10-25.

Set two, we tried to regroup and knew we needed to start executing on offense.

Pelican started to serve receive the ball very well but still was having trouble in the front row executing our offense. Middle hitter Anna Roisum and outside hitter Kelsey Isaman had a few momentum shifts with some big kills, but we just did not have enough consistent power to make their blockers work. The Viking lost set two, 13-25.

Set three, Hazel Haugrud, Morgan Korf, and Kelsey Isaman serve received extremely well, and Libero Morgan Korf did a great job reading their hitters and digging up much of what they were throwing at us.

“We just made too many mistakes in the front row and we ended up playing defense most of the night and not enough offense,” said Coach Heidi Isaman.

The Vikings lost set three, 18-25.
