Pelican lineman Justin Jacobson earns spot on statewide grid list

This pass intended for  Pelican’s Luke Sjolie was just out of reach

The undefeated Pelican Rapids Vikings football team hit a brick wall Sept. 16—in the form of the down-road rivals Barnesville Trojans

The Vikes were stymied on offense, as Barnesville shut down Pelican 43-0.

Barnesville’s 22-point second quarter propelled the Trojans to a 28-0 halftime lead. The Pelican defense tightened up somewhat, limiting the  Trojans went on  15 second-half points.

Pelican Rapids (2-1) has a road game this week against Parkers Prairie.

Justin Jacobson

Pelican Rapids Viking football lineman earned a spot on a Minnesota top high school football player listing.

Justin Jacobson was included on a pre-season list compiled by Prep Redzone Minnesota, as an All State Class AA, offense and defensive lineman.

Pelican junior Jacobson, 6-2, 245, plays both ways and on the defensive side plays both end and tackle.

As a sophomore he racked up 47.5 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, and a forced fumble.

“Justin has great instincts on the defensive line,” Pelican football coach Eli Beachy said. “He moves all over the defensive line for us and could easily be a phenomenal middle linebacker.”

Jacobson is a versatile athlete who runs a 4.9 40-yard dash, benches 285 pounds, and squats 455.

“Justin is the ideal offensive lineman at the high school level,” coach Eli Beachy said. Jacobson has the versatility to play both tackle and guard, and Beachy believes he could even play tight end or running back if needed.
