Expenses for the Pelican Rapids Volunteer Fire Department have been held below the rate of inflation for 2023.
The department increased its expense budget by only 2.29 percent, based on the annual budget submitted to the Pelican Rapids City Council at the July 26 meeting.
The only substantial increase was an approximate $10,000 bump in capital outlay for pagers, and a set-aside $4,500 for future mobile communication device replacement.
Debt free…that will be the status of the Pelican Fire Department in 2027—at least as far as the new fire hall construction.
The final payment will be in four years. The scheduled payment in 2023 will be $68,483.
In other fire department news, the high value of used vehicles worked to the fire department’s advantage recently.
The department put an older truck up for sale, expecting to get about $10,000. But the truck went for more than $12,000.
