The football field Yoga sessions have grown with each event over the summer, with 75 participants at the July 27 event at the Pelican Rapids High School football field.

The football field actually looked ‘full’ of human bodies.

A wide range of ages have participated in the sessions, including Pelican high school soccer and basketball players. One more session is scheduled for August 10, 6:30 p.m., at Chauncey Martin Football Field in Pelican Rapids.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a yoga mat if they have one, but a towel or even just the grass will do just fine. All ages and skill levels are welcome.

Leading the sessions is Brenda Haugrud, who has taught YogaFit at RehabPlus & Fitness in Pelican for the past five years. YogaFit emphasizes sports science and alignment principles, as well as the ancient traditions of Yoga, making it adaptable for a full range of participants.

The idea was generated by Pelican graduate and seasonal resident Pamela Hovland, and her family is sponsoring the events.

Helping the idea become a reality was the Pelican Rapids Community Education department, Cary Haugrud, and Superintendent Brian Korf. By teaming up with community ed, there is access to the audio and communication systems at the football field.
