The Menahga Braves softball team defeated the Pelican Rapids Lady Vikings 9-1 on May 6.

Menahga scored two runs in the first and added two more runs in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead.

The bottom of the third inning saw Hazel Haugrud reach first base on an infield hit. Two batters later, Haugrud scored on a base hit by Arianna Villagomez as the Vikings cut the Brave’s lead to 4-1.

Emily Haiby’s single in the fifth inning was the only other Viking to collect a hit in the contest, in part to some very nice defensive plays by the Braves.

Kia Nelson pitched all seven innings, striking out seven batters and giving up eight earned runs in the contest to take the loss.

Pelican Rapids will have a very busy week. Monday, they traveled to DGF, on Tuesday hosted Breckenridge, and on Thursday host Perham. On Saturday, the Lady Vikings will travel to Frazee for a tournament.

Bleacher addition offers great view of softball action

A look at the bleacher section added to the women’s softball field at the Pelican high school outdoor sports complex. The bleachers were acquired along with a package from the former Red Horse Ranch center. The grandstand at the soccer field, and additional bleachers at the baseball diamond were included in the purchase by the school district.
