Fergus Falls session focuses on marketing for artists

Area artists are invited to a free two-day workshop by potter and business owner Catie Miller, recognized worldwide for her colorfully illustrated ceramics.

The workshop is set for March 24-25 on the Fergus Falls campus of Minnesota State Community and Technical College.

In addition to her work as a potter, Miller is an illustrator, muralist, and workshop instructor whose murals are featured at the newly built Fargo City Hall and Community Family Market. Her works have been exhibited nationally and internationally.

The two-day workshop will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days and is funded by a grant from Fergus Area College Foundation.

Day 1 will be an observation day to learn about Miller’s technique of printing images on clay, followed by an artist’s talk at 5:20 p.m. where she will talk about marketing and the avenues she has used to sell and promote her work, including through social media marketing and e-commerce.

The second day, which is limited to 16 participants, will be a hands-on day, with an opportunity for participants to try the techniques that Miller teaches. All materials will be provided.

Artists interested in attending should contact M State ceramics instructor Lori Charest at lori.charest@minnesota.edu.

As a member of the Minnesota State system, M State serves more than 8,000 students in credit courses each year in more than 80 career and liberal arts programs online and at its campuses in Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls, Moorhead, and Wadena.
