Before the bulldozers arrived, committee members took the first dig, from left: Ron Franklin, Sherri Hanson, Maria Sontag, Shannon Charpentier, Jill Shipman.
Bulldozing began on the Vergas pickleball courts on October 16.

Dirt is on-the-move to make way for the new pickleball courts near the baseball diamonds in Vergas.

The groundwork and cement work is the first phase of the project and is scheduled to be completed in October.

Phase two and three consist of surfacing and fencing and is scheduled for spring 2022.

“We are thrilled to be underway,” says Jill Shipman, committee member. “This will bring yet another improvement to the city of Vergas and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. We invite anyone who loves this community to join us in this effort.”

The total project cost is $130,000 with already half of the funds raised, which have come from grants and donations from businesses and individuals.

All donations are tax-deductible and can be made payable to West Central Initiative and mailed to the City of Vergas, PO Box 32, Vergas MN 56587. Or, donations can be made online at cityofvergas.com.
