Pelican girls track athlete long jumps 7 inches past previous mark
Tatianna Wiley broke her own school record by 5 inches and the Heart O’ Lakes conference record by 7 inches this past Tuesday with her first jump of the day.
Wiley leaped 17’9.25″ to win the Long Jump. She returned later in the day to run a season best 59.3 and then went on to anchor the winning 4×400 meter relay team of Tori Stephenson, Kelsey Isaman and Anna Stephenson as they won in a season best time of 4:15.25.
Anna Stephenson had the best High Jump day of her career clearing 5’2″ on her way to an individual conference championship. Her sister Tori came from behind late in the 300 hurdles to also become the conference champion in 50.43 seconds.
Chloe Paulson looked impressive in her first race back after a long battle with a quadriceps injury. Paulson finished 3rd in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:29.39 which was good enough for all-conference honors. Sophomore Janae Laferriere also had a great day in the discus throwing 84’7.5″ which was good enough for third place and all conference honors.
Other place winners on the day included: the 4×100 meter relay team of Rachael Guler, Lizzy Moe, Hannah Fossen and Kajelina Luttrell (6th, 59.37), and Kelsey Isaman in the 800 (4th, 2:38.85).
Other athletes earning personal bests on the day included; Brenna Davis (100 hurdles, 21.18), Faith Banton (100, 15.2), Guler, Isaman, Moe and Fosson, (4×200 relay, 2:04.8), Lexie Pixley (400, 69.78), Laferriere (Shot Put, 28’1″), and Lizette Franco (Discus, 59’0″).
The Vikings now prepare for the Sub-Section meet next Thursday in Ada, MN.
