The Pelican Rapids varsity softball team defeated Lake Park-Audubon 8-2 on April 20, thanks to a strong start by the Lady Vikings. 

Pelican Rapids scored on a walk by Holly Bergquist, a single by Ellie Welch, a triple by Allie Haiby, a groundout by Morgan Korf, and a groundout by Vanassa Booth in the first inning.

Kia Nelson earned the victory on the rubber for the Vikings. The pitcher went five innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out four and walking one.

Brynn Stallberger took the loss for Lake Park-Audubon. Stallberger lasted four innings, allowing six hits and eight runs while striking out three.

Welch led Pelican Rapids Vikings Varsity with two hits in two at bats.

Lake Park edged Pelican in game 2

In game 2 of the doubleheader, Pelican Rapids was defeated by Lake Park-Audubon by the score of 6-3. 

Both games of the doubleheader were only 5 innings due to the frigid sub-40 degree temperatures.

Lake Park-Audubon pulled away for good with four runs in the third inning. In the third, LPA singled, scoring one run. Then, a Brynn Stallberger sac fly scored another run. Next, an error by Pelican Rapids allowed another run to score for Lake Park-Audubon, and Gullard singled on a 2-0 count, scoring the 4th run of the inning.

Thea Mattson was credited with the victory for Lake Park-Audubon. She lasted all five innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out five.

Sylvia Pesch took the loss for Pelican Rapids Vikings Varsity. Pesch went three innings, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out one. Pesch walked 3 batters.

Welch, Greta Tollefson, Morgan Korf, and Kiera Booth each collected one hit for Pelican Rapids.

Thompson went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Lake Park-Audubon in hits. Lake Park-Audubon was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Gullard made the most plays with six.

“Too many walks and untimely errors will get you beat against anyone, we need to improve upon this to win games moving forward,” said Pelican Rapids Head Coach Dan Beck.
