Who says lightning can’t strike twice?
Just over a year ago on March 6, 2020, the Pelican Rapids girls basketball team upset the Fergus Falls Otter girls in the Section 8AA Championship game. Maddie Guler fired in a last second ‘lightning bolt’ for the 43 to 41 win.
Fast forward to March 25, 2021, ‘The Hive’ in Perham was the site of this years championship game between the same two teams. The contest was close the entire way with one team taking a lead only to have their opponents come charging back.
An 8-0 run by Pelican left the game tied at halftime with 22 points each.
The 2nd half, much like the first, saw Fergus Falls leading by 8 points with 9 minutes remaining. 3-pointers by Stephenson, Korf, and Tollefson all but erased that lead.
Elle Colbeck was outstanding again for Fergus Falls, scoring 28, but it was Greta Tollefson’s turn to be “cold blooded,” scoring 30 points, including 9 for 13 from the freethrow line.
When she did miss late in the game Allie Haiby chased down a huge rebound for the Vikings to retain possession. Anna Stephenson was in double figures adding 11 points.
52-46 was the final, a solid performance by the Pelican Rapids Viking girls at Perhan March 25.
Stay ‘cold blooded’ Vikings!!
