The Pelican Rapids girls basketball team defeated the Barnesville Trojans 56-52 in a Heart O’ Lakes conference game on Feb. 9.

“The girls played hard and had to battle every possession,” said coach Brian Korf.

Greta Tollefson and Anna Stephenson helped the Vikings build a lead by scoring the first seven points before Barnesville scored their first basket.

The Vikings continued to build on the lead and the Trojans made a run late in the first half to cut the Vikings lead to three 25-22.

With less than ten seconds left in the half, Tollefson found Morgan Korf open in the corner and Korf drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Vikings a 28-22 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Trojans outscored the Vikings 30-28.

Tollefson and Stephenson led the Vikings in scoring with 23 and 19 points for the Vikings. Chloe Paulson scored 6 points and Korf scored 4 points. Allie Haiby and Ellie Welch chipped in 2 points each for the Vikings.

Tollefson and Stephenson led the Vikings with 7 rebounds each and Haiby and Kelsey Isaman grabbed 3 rebounds each.
