The PRHS junior high math team recently had their fifth and final meet of the season for Minnesota State Junior High School Mathematics League.
It was a very challenging meet and scores were low throughout the West Central region. Brody Syverson’s score of eight points was good enough to tie for third place individually. Charlie Larson, Maclain Hovland, Willem Pesch, Linea Thomas, and Keagan Nettestad-Wynn all tied for eighth place. Also competing well were Hani Bashir, Dylan Hoadley, Kirra Johnson, Hunter Hanson, and Morgan Korf.
As a team Pelican Rapids again earned second place at this meet. The Vikings earned first place at meet three this season. At the four remaining meets they placed second to Alexandria. Vikings team members were Syverson, Larson, Hovland, Pesch, Thomas, and Bashir.
End-of-season awards will be given to the top four teams and top ten individuals in our region. The Pelican Rapids Vikings team claimed the second-place trophy and Pelican Rapids Orange team finished in seventh place for the year.
This was a very successful season for our junior high mathletes, said Coach Lisa Petznick.
Brody Syverson claimed the third-place medal, Charlie Larson took fourth, and seventh-grader Maclain Hovland finished in seventh place. Willem Pesch just missed a tenth-place medal by one question.
Also listed among top competitors were Harley Jacobson (16th), Linea Thomas (22nd), Hani Bashir (24th), and Dylan Hoadley (30th).
Others competing for Pelican Rapids this season include Easton Munick, Kirra Johnson, Hunter Hanson, Morgan Korf, Keagan Nettestad-Wynn, Jaxon Dalman, and Finn Stewart.
