0DGF out-shoots Pelican 77-51
The Pelican Rapids boys basketball team hosted two Heart O’ Lakes conference opponents last week as Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton came to town February 2 and Perham on February 5.
The Vikings struggled in both games as they suffered two lopsided defeats which dropped their overall record to 3-3 and 2-3 in the HOL conference.
Against DGF, a 14-0 run in the middle of the first half staked the Rebels to a 21-7 lead that they would never relinquish.
DGF led 40-29 at the half and they cruised to a 77-51 win over the Vikings.
“In addition to shooting poorly tonight, we were really physically dominated which was the most disappointing aspect of the loss,” head coach John Gullingsrud stated. “They were much quicker than us, outhustled us to loose balls, and pushed us around on the boards as they outrebounded us 52-34.”
The Vikings had two players reach double figures in scoring as Jayden Rutherford had 14 points and Tanner Tollerud 13. Liam Sytsma led the team with 8 rebounds and Brayden Ecker had 7 as well. McHale Korf had a team high 6 assists and 3 steals. As a team, Pelican Rapids only made 21-61 (34%) of their shots from the field and 8-29 (28%) of their threes. They were also 1-9 (11%) from the free throw line.
