The Pelican Rapids Vikings hosted Breckenridge November 12.
The Vikings started very strong, executing our offense very well. We have been working hard on getting ourselves in system at a higher percentage and our back row passers made big strides with that tonight.
Outside hitters Tori Stephenson and Kelsey Isaman did a great job swinging through the Cowgirls’ blockers tonight while senior Anna Stephenson hit extremely well form the back row to add some key kills for us. After starting extremely strong in set one, we had a few hitting errors and backed off our intensity of swinging through their blockers. Breckenridge took advantage and got their strong outside hitters swinging. We were inconsistent tonight with our block and outside defense which caused us a to dig a hole we just could not dig out of.
The Vikings lost set one 13-25.
Set two we started extremely strong again, hitting aggressively and passing very well. Setter Sophia Paulson ran the court well and mixed up her setting choices. Senior defensive specialist Allie Haiby worked extremely hard tonight and made some big saves for us in the back row and Vikings were in a great rhythm. The Cowgirls however put up some strong blocks all night and we had trouble covering our hitters which did not give us enough hitting opportunities to fire back.
The Vikings lost set two, 16-25.
Set 3 the Vikings jumped right back on the court and started extremely strong executing very well. Middle hitters Ellie Welch and Anna Stephenson stepped up our blocking and got some great touches in set three. We also made adjustments to our defense to get a few more digs from their aggressive pin hitters. We struggled a bit to set consistently to our middles and made some passing mistakes to lessen our setting choices.
The Viking lost three 3 17-25.
“Even though our outcome was not what we wanted, I was extremely proud of how these girls played against a very strong conference team. We are making big strides in our serve receive and blocking which have been our big goals this year. These girls work really hard and put forth great effort and grit all night,” said Coach
Heidi Isaman.
