The Pelican Rapids Area Rotary Club has cancelled the “Fly-In Drive-In” pancake breakfast for 2020.
But the local organization’s annual Peach Sale will proceed. The dates are contingent on harvest and transport, but it appears the Peach Sale will likely be about August 12-14.
The Rotarians are hoping for brisk sales. Like most organizations, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the cancellation of events that raise funds for the community. Scholarships and other school activities are among the top recipients of Rotary donations.
In addition to the originally scheduled August 8 pancake breakfast at the airport, the local Rotary Club also cancelled its main annual fundraiser—the Turkey BBQ. 2020 marks the first year in a half-century—or longer—that the Pelican Fest and turkey feed were cancelled.
After much consideration and discussion, the club determined that there were too many unknowns in preparing and serving the Fly-In Drive-In during the COVID-19 pandemic.
