The Pelican Rapids Viking wrestling team continued an impressive January, getting four wins in one week, Feb. 4 to 8.

Since the first of the year they have earned 13 victories while only losing three matches, noted Coach Harold Holt.

On Tuesday they defeated Wadena-Deer Creek 38-21 and Fergus Falls 51-11.  Missing from the line up were Daniel Diaz and Troy Bell who both are recovering from concussions.

Wrestler of the Meet in the Wadena dual was Max Dykhoff who won by major decision 17-9.

“Max is doing a great job this year. He has really perfected his fireman’s carry takedown and got several of them in this match,” stated Coach Holt.

In the Fergus Falls dual the Vikings lost only two matches. Sebastian Centeno’s pin was his 25th and was present a poster and an award for this feat.

“This is quite impressive to have a wrestler with 52 wins and to have 25 of them pins,” stated Coach Holt.

The other Wrestler of the Meet was Johnny Ziebell who pinned Kaden Hartwell, the fifth ranked Class AA wrestler at 170.  Johnny was behind at the start of the second period. He chose down, was able to earn a reversal and put Hartwell in a headlock and pinned him in 2:30.
