In the opening match on Feb. 6, the Pelican Rapids High School Vikings took on New York Mills Eagles defeating them 40-24.  

The two wrestlers that earned Wrestler of the Meet honors were both behind in the third period.  They both earned takedowns late in the third period to take the match into the sudden victory period.  

This is a one minute period in which the wrestler who scores the first points win.  

Both Oakley Carlson and Carter Johnson took their opponent down to their back and earn a pin for the Vikings.  

“These pins were very crucial to the team’s victory,” stated Coach Dylan Evenson.

The last regular season dual of the year was also Feb. 6, when the Vikings wrestled the Breckenridge Cowboys and defeated them 64-12. 

Wrestler of the Meet was ninth grader Abraham Gonzalez who pinned his man in 1:22. There were many exciting matches in this dual.  

At 106 Jed Carlson defeated Matt Noll 11-7, Noll  had earlier defeated him.  Matty Ziebell defeated Aiden Ruddy, a 20 plus winner, 6-5. 

 “It is important for both wrestlers to have a tough match like this to prepare them for sections,” stated Coach Harold Holt.
