The Pelican Rapids girls basketball team traveled to Ada-Borup on Friday night to take on the Cougars.  In a non-conference game, the Viking defeated the Cougars 57-41. 

“We came out strong in the first half and built a good lead going into halftime,” said coach Brian Korf.

In the first five minutes of the game, the Vikings built a lead 10-4 continued to build on the lead to lead at halftime 32-14.  “We did a lot of nice things offensively and defensively in the first half,” commented coach korf.

The Cougars outscored the Vikings 27-25 in the second half.

In the rebound category, the Vikings outrebounded the Cougars 30-20.  Leading the Vikings in rebounding was Anna Stephenson with 6 rebounds and Abby Syverson and Allie Haiby with 5 rebounds each.  The Vikings had twelve offensive rebounds and allowed three Cougar offensive rebounds.  

Maddie Guler led the Vikings with 5 assists while Ryley Paulson dished out 3 assists and Tollefson dished out 2 assists.

Both teams had 18 turnovers.  “We need to improve on our turnovers in order to compete in March,” commented coach Korf.

Guler led the Vikings in steals with 4 steals while Chloe Paulson, Ryley Paulson and Allie Haiby had 2 steals each. 

Greta Tollefson and Anna Stephenson led the Vikings in scoring with 25 and 17 points.   Guler, Chloe Paulson, and Karina Torres added 3 points each while Abby Syverson and Ryley Paulson scored 2 points each.  Vanassa Booth and Rachael Guler added 1 point each.
