Local vendor Carole Johnson displayed her unique “Smittens” creations at the Oktoberfest vendor fair Oct. 12. Johnson “re-purposes” second hand sweaters, by creating new pairs of mittens. “I know every second hand thrift store in the area,” said Johnson with a laugh, as she shops for second hand sweaters.

Delivering a message at the Oktoberfest “Salute to Our Troops” Oct. 11 was Jaci (Grefsrud) Porto, a 2008 graduate of Pelican Rapids High School. She has returned to the Pelican area, while her husband, Flavio Porto is deployed to Afghanistan with the U.S. Air Force.
The Country Auggies performed music for a special Oktoberfest event at the Pelican Rapids Senior Citizen Center. The event was hosted by the center, and included a bake sale.
