The 24th Annual Lake Lida Junior Golf Tournament was held August 11 at Lida Greens Golf Course, located on Lake Lida east of Pelican Rapids.
This year’s event featured the return of last year’s champions in both age groups, although last year’s younger age group co-champion, Charlie Solberg (13), of Fargo, moved into the older age group this year. There were six entrants in the 12 and under flight and twenty-two in the 13-17 year-old flight. Following the new format begun two years ago, flight one players play 9 holes on the front nine, and finish with the 9 holes on the championship course – 5 holes on the front nine, and 4 holes on the back five.
In the Championship flight, boys 13-17 year old group, Logan Petznick (17) of Pelican Rapids successfully defended his title – for a third straight time – with an 18-hole score of 76. Petznick won in a one-hole playoff over Cody Card (15) of Fargo, who also finished with a 76. Charlie Solberg was a strong third with a score of 79. Cody Card led after the first round with a score of 35, earning him the Harold White Medalist Award. There were no 13-17 year-old girls competing this year.
Flight One prizes were awarded for a team Best Ball score over the first 9 holes. Cody Card and Ian Saunders (15), of Fargo, won the Best Ball with a team score of 32, beating runners-up Logan Petznick and McHale Korf (16), of Pelican Rapids, also with a score of 32, in a one-hole playoff.
In Flight Two, 12 and under boys played a team 9-hole scramble. Liam Pederson (11) and Coleman Hoff (11), both from Hawley, scored a 32 to beat Casyn Pundle (12), of Pelican Rapids, and Carter Sparrow (12), of Hawley.
The Lake Lida Junior Tournament is an annual event of the Lake Lida Junior Golf Club and is held at Lida Greens Golf Course the second Sunday of August each year.
