The Pelican Rapids American Legion and VFW Posts color guard received a special thank you from the Erhard All Veterans Memorial committee.

Pictured foreground left, Gene Nygaard, one of the four main volunteers that raised funds for the Erhard memorial–which features flagpoles for all branches of the service, plus Old Glory, the Minnesota state flag and the POW-MIA flag. The memorial was officially dedicated on May 25, and the veteran color guards participated in the program.

Nygaard presented a thank you plaque to VFW Commander Richard Gabe, right, prior to the Erhard July 4th parade–as the color guard was preparing to march at the head of the parade.

The Erhard memorial has been a remarkable success.  Funds were mostly raised by selling “paver” stones to families of veterans, at $100 each.  In fact, noted Nygaard, so many plaques were sold that the memorial is expanding to a fifth row of stones.  Nearly $30,000 has been raised to date for the Erhard project.
