Ellie Johnson advances to State Golf
The Pelican Rapids girls golf team finished 4th out of 11 teams competing in the Section 6A tournament held at Perham Lakeside Golf Course on May 29 and May 30.
Pelican’s Ellie Johnson will be making her second consecutive appearance at the state golf meet.
Park Christian led the team competition after the first day with 331, followed by Pine River Backus 408, Ottertail Central 424, Pelican Rapids 452, Hillcrest 463, Frazee 470, Nevis 470, Lake Park Audubon 507, Breckenridge Inc, Walker Hackensack-Akely Inc., and Rothsay Inc.
Park Christian’s Emily Doeden led after the first day as an individual with 75, followed by Park Christian’s Amy Jacobson 83, Park Christian’s Emily Stueland 86, Park Christian’s Amanda Strom 87, Park Christian’s Grace Heinen 96, Ottertail Central’s Grace Nyhus 96, Walker’s Justine Day 97, Pine River’s Jordan Cunningham 99, Pine River’s Lexi Trout 99, Park Christian’s Madison Doeden 101, Nevis’ Kaylee Halik 101 and Pelican’s Ellie Johnson 102. Other scores for Pelican were Jenna Stetz 109, Emma Seter 114, and Sophia Paulson 127.
The top four teams advance to the second day and they finished as follows: Park Christian 331-348 779, Pine River Backus 408-400 808, Ottertail Central 424-418 842, Pelican Rapids 452-465 917.
The winning team and the top five individual scores not on the winning team advance to State. Those advancing were as follows: Park Christian’s Emily Doeden 75-76 151, Park Christian’s Emily Stueland 86-89 175, Park Christian’s Amy Jacobson 83-94 177, Park Christian’s Amanda Strom 87-94 181, Walker’s Justine Day 97-86 183, Park Christian’s Grace Heinen 96-89 185, Pelican Rapids’ Ellie Johnson 102-93 195, Park Christian’s Madisan Doeden 101-96 197, Ottertail Central’s Grace Nyhus 96-103 199, Pine River’s Bella Netland 108-94 202, and Pine River’s Hannah Barchus 104-98 20.
Other two day totals for Pelican were: Emma Seter 114-114 228, Jenna Stetz 109-124 233, and Sophia Paulson 127-134 261.
10th grader Emma Seter played her best golf of the year as she finished 23rd overall and 17th among players not on Park Christian’s team. 11th grader Jenna Stetz also did well with 27th and 21st. Stetz’s 53 on the Oak 9 at Perham was one of her better scores of the year. 9th grader Sophia Paulson gained valuable experience and had a respectable performance on the difficult Perham golf course.
Ellie Johnson, 11th grader, daughter of Mark and Tonya Johnson, will play at Pebble Creek Golf Course, near Becker, MN on June 11 and 12 in the State Tournament.
Johnson is shooting her best golf at tournament time as the 93 ties her best 18 hole score on the Perham Golf Course. This will be the second trip to State for Johnson.
