The Pelican Rapids junior varsity baseball team suffered a narrow loss to Otter Tail Central last week.

The Bulldogs scored first with one in the 1st.  

The JV came back in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. Austin Stoll singled and stole 2nd. He scored when Alex Lynnes’s ground ball was misplayed. Lynnes stole 2nd and 3rd and scored when Jacob Willit’s fly ball was dropped.

OTC got 2 more in the 2nd on 2 walks, a sacrifice bunt and a base hit. The Vikings regained the lead in the bottom of the inning on base hits from Tim Guler, Mark LaPoint, a walk to Stoll, Justin Verdorn’s 2 RBI single and another OTC error. Pelican made it a 6-3 game in the 4th when Stoll walked, stole 2nd and scored on Verdorn’s single.  

Stoll was cruising on the mound until the 5th.  He retired 6 straight hitters via strikeouts when, with 2 outs, a ground ball was misplayed. The next 5 Bulldogs reached on 3 hits, 2 walks, scoring 5 with  Verdorn relieving during the carnage.  Only 1 more Viking reached base the final 3 innings, resulting in the 8-6 loss.
