It was a tough day for the Pelican baseball team as they traveled to Perham and lost twice in lopsided scores, 18-1 and 18-0.

An 11 run 2nd inning and 6 run 3rd inning provided more than enough support for the two Yellowjacket pitchers, Rooney and Diggins, as Pelican was held to one hit, a single by Ismael Mejia.

Once again the Vikings had trouble putting the ball in play as they struck out 12 times in the 5 inning game, shortened by the 10 run rule.

Damien Britten, Weston Funk, Alex Lynnes and Johnny Ziebell did the pitching for the Vikings. Tim Guler did the catching. Perham collected 11 hits and were also helped by 5 Viking errors.

The 2nd game was more of the same as Perham batted around twice in the 2nd inning, scoring 13 runs.  The Pelican bats were pretty much silenced in this game as well, as they managed only 2 hits, singles by Brock Sjolie and Weston Funk. Carson McNeal, Ziebell and Sjolie did the pitching.

Guler and Reggie Funk did the catching.

Once again, the defense failed the Vikings as 6 errors resulted in only 6 runs being earned.

“Perham has a very good team but we didn’t play the way we are capable of.  There is no pretty spin we can put on these games.  All in all, it was a very humbling day in Perham,” said assistant coach Steve Babb.

JV loses 2 to Perham

The JV faired no better than the Varsity as they lost by almost identical scores, 12-1 and 18-0.

In the first game, Cody Nord broke up the no hitter in the final inning with a lead off line drive single.   Mark LaPoint added a single later in the inning as the young Vikings pushed across their lone run.  Isaac Olson pitched the first 2 innings and deserved a better fate as 3 Viking errors and a fly ball lost in the sun resulted in 7 Perham runs, all unearned.

Perham put the game away with 5 more in the 4th on 4 hits and 3 more Pelican errors. Luke Sjolie pitched the final 2 innings, Jack Paulson and Austin Stoll did the catching.

The 2nd game was worse than the first with the Yellowjackets scoring 7 in the 1st and 11 more in the 2nd.  The Vikings did not get a hit in this game, shortened by the 15 run rule after 3.

Logan Fahje started the game and was relieved by 3 pitchers, Patrick Pechtel, Liam Sytsma and Cody Nord, all getting their first appearances on the mound. Stoll again did the catching.
