Heart O’ Lakes singers host regional male vocal contest in Pelican May 18

Male singers from throughout the region will converge, melodically and harmoniously, on Pelican Rapids May 18.

The Pelican Rapids headquartered HeartO’Lakes Harmony will be hosting the 2019 Barbershop Harmony Society Northern Plains Division Contest at Pelican Rapids High School Saturday, May 18.

The contest will attract singers from around the region, and the public is invited to listen in. 

Doors open at 10 a.m. and the contest begins at 11 a.m..

Four large group Barbershop Choruses will be competing (Heart O’ Lakes, Fargo, Willmar and St. Cloud) as well as a number of quartets–including five of the area’s finest barbershop foursomes.  

In total, more than 100 barbershoppers will be participating.

There is a $20 cost to attend the full  contest, which runs from 11 till about 3:30 p.m.

At 4:30 p.m. all of the choruses will be performing a finale show that is open to the public.  There will be a free will donation at the door.

The host group, Heart O’ Lakes, features about 50 male vocalists from throughout the lakes area.  The group rehearses every week in Pelican Rapids, at Faith Lutheran Church.  

The Heart O’ Lakes group is well known for their annual concerts in the area, which have been presented at venues in Pelican Rapids, Fergus Falls and Detroit Lakes and others.  The group’s Christmas season has been a  popular event during the holiday season.
