The softball team paused for an informal photo, while playing in the Frazee tournament April 27. Coaches are Dan Beck and Sarah Davis.

The Pelican Rapids Softball team earned their second victory of the 2019 season by defeating a solid Warroad team by the score of 5-4 in the Frazee Tournament on Saturday, April 27.

Eighth-Grader Sylvia Pesch pitched a complete game (7-innings) to earn the Win. 

 She only walked one batter and struck out 3, while allowing 8 hits.  Her teammates played well defensively and made the routine plays.

Offensively, the Vikings were led by Holly Bergquist (2 Hits, 1 Run), Emma Haugrud (2 Hits, 1 Run, 1 RBI), & Kiera Booth (4 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI).

Win high-scoring romp over Ashby 

The Lady Vikings also notched an 18-15 victory over Ashby on April 25, racking up ten hits.  

Leading the offensive attack for Pelican was Sarah Thompson, with three hits, three runs and two RBIs.  Vanessa Booth drove in three runs and scored three.  

Holly Bergquist scored three runs and hit safely twice.  

Sharing duties at the pitching rubber were Sylvia Pesch, who threw five innings  and gave up nin earned runs; with Bergquist coming in reliefe  for two innings and shutting down ashby with a pair of strikeouts. 

Pelican Rapids hurler Sylvia Pesch has had a lot of action on the mound as the Lady Viking softball season ramps up. She pitched a complete game victory, over Warroad April 27.

Lady Vikes drop twin bill to Frazee

On April 22, Pelican dropped  a doubleheader to Frazee.  

The Vikings lost a close contest 6-5, with Pesch pitching the entire game–striking out two and walking only three. 

Pelican held a 2-1 lead until the seventh inning.  The Vikes scored three, but Frazee answered with four runs to tie the game–but scored one in the bottom of the eighth to get the win.  

Pelican was held to five hits, with Sarah Thompson  hitting a pair.  Vanessa Booth scored two runs.  

Frazee easily won the second game of the twin bill, 13-3 in five innings.  

Viking pitchers had trouble with controll, and walked ten batters between hurlers Holly Bergquist and Greta Tollefson. 

Adding to the Viking woes were two errors.  Frazee committed no errors.
