Chairperson sought for summer festival

The Pelican Rapids summer celebration has jumped ahead–to a new June schedule.

The dates are set, June 27-29,  including the grand parade on Saturday morning June 29.

A chairperson for Pelican Fest is being sought.  For information, contact the Pelican Rapids Chamber of Commerce at or call and leave a message with Chamber President Nicki Stetz, 218.329.2242.

The summer festival was previously held in July, but this year will be held the last week of June. There has been discussion between the Rotary, Jaycee’s and the Chamber about a change in date and after reviewing many area events this weekend looked like a time when there would be fewer competing area festivals and activities.

This year, the Chamber will be kicking off the weekend with an Inaugural Golf Scramble on Thursday, June 27.

Planning and organizing for this event needs to begin and currently they do not have an event chair.

There are  individuals that are willing to assist but the community is in need of someone to coordinate all the details.

Everett Ballard has been an integral part of Pelican Fest for many years, and the Chamber and community are very appreciative of all the work he has done, noted Stetz. Ballard is willing to be a resource point for the individual that will be picking up the reigns but will not be active in this year’s event.

“It is time for Everett to step back and enjoy his past labors,” said Stetz.

For anyone ready, willing and able to carry the torch and possibly even bring some new ideas to the table, this would be a golden opportunity to build the event–with all new, June dates.
