Pelican Rapids girls basketball team traveled to East Grand Forks in a non-conference game Jan. 3.

  The lady Vikings shot 58% from the field and held the Greenwave to 15% from the field.  The Vikings defeated the Greenwave 48-26. “Our defense was very good tonight and we did a nice job of contesting shots,” said coach Brian Korf.

The Vikings built a lead in the first half by scoring 25 points in the first half and limiting the Greenwave to 6 points in the first half.  

In the second half, the Vikings scored 23 points and the Greenwave scored 20 points.  

The Vikings outrebounded the Greeenwave 34-23.  Leading the Vikings in rebounding was Adriana Torres with 9 rebounds and Greta Tollefson with 8 rebounds.  Anna Stephenson and Ryley Paulson had 4 rebounds each and Maddie Guler and Kaylie Isaman had 3 rebounds each.  

Maddie Guler led the Vikings with 4 assists while Sarah Thompson dished out 3 assists.

Adriana Torres led the Vikings in scoring with 19 points and Greta Tollefson scored 14 points.  Kaylie Isaman had 6 points and Sarah Thompson scored 5 points.  Mia Stewart and Ryley Paulson chipped in 2 points each. 

Boys, girls twin bill Jan. 10  

This week, the Vikings travel to Wadena-Deer Creek on Tuesday, host Frazee in a boys/girls doubleheader, travel to Breckenridge on Friday night and then play Battle Lake at Concordia College on Saturday night at 6:00pm.  

“We have a busy week and will need to stay focused throughout this week to be successful,” commented coach Korf.
