Members of the Pelican Rapids High School Valkyries Dance Team attended a team based dance camp in Brainerd, July 9-12.

The camp consisted of over 800 dancers from the state of Minnesota and surrounding areas. Each dancer learned three routines and attended two special sessions that consisted of technique, team bonding, stretching, conditioning, etc. The team also had two sessions of private coaching where they worked on specific technique related to their strengths and weaknesses.

There were a couple different options to compete at camp; the Valkyries competed in the home routine show and had eight dancers compete in the kicks, leaps, toe touches, and turns competition with one dancer, Emma Kress, advancing to the second round of kicks.

There were a number of awards given out at camp on the last day.

Valkyrie’s Holly Bergquist received a “fire cracker” award for her upbeat and positive attitude.

Coaches Emily Evenson and Avery Neuville attended camp with the team as well and participated in the many coaches classes and meetings that were offered. These classes ranged from technique to team bonding to score sheets.

The PRHS Valkyries will begin their 2017-18 season the end of October.
