Pelican bounces back from doubleheader loss to win at home over Mahnomen-Waubun

Pitching all seven innings for Pelican in the victory over Mahnomen-Waubun was Shelby Schermerhorn.

After an opening day disappointment, losing both ends of a doubleheader to Barnesville, the Lady Vikings softball team came back April 13 to defeat Mahnomen-Waubun 9-5.

Pelican Rapids jumped out to an early lead over M-W.

Pelican scored on a single by Brekken Thorson, at triple by Sarah Thompson, and a double by Taylor Berndt in the second inning.

Shelby Schermerhorn earned the win for Pelican Rapids.  She threw a full seven innings, surrendering five runs, three hits,  striking out six and walking one.

Pelican tallied 13 hits, with Berndt, Morgan Hatle, Hailey Peterson and Celeste Stoll each collecting multiple hits.  Berndt led the Lady Vikings in the RBI department–knocking in three runs, and batting 3-for-3 on the day.

With the opening day losses to a tough Barnesville team, by scores of 14-1 and 10-0, the Lady Vikings are 1-2  for the season
