The Pelican Rapids girls basketball team defeated the Breckenridge Cowgirls by the score of 55-44 Feb. 10 in a Heart O’ Lakes Conference contest in Breckenridge.

The win was the third in a row for the Vikings.

“We came out with energy and did a nice job defensively,” said coach Brian Korf.

Both teams exchanged baskets to start of the game but the Vikings gained the lead in the middle of the first half. Sarah Thompson drained a 15 foot shot right at the buzzer of the first half to give the Vikings a five point lead. The Vikings led at halftime 28-23.

The Lady Vikes built on their halftime lead in the second half and had a fifteen point lead with eight minutes left in the second half. Adriana Torres helped secure the victory for the Vikings by making eight out of ten free throws down the stretch. “Torres shot the ball well and Isaman came out strong in the second half and made two big three-pointers to give us a comfortable lead,” commented coach Korf.

The Vikings placed three players in double figures, led by Torres with 24 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals.  Thompson added 15 points and Kaylie Isaman finished with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Greta Tollefsen added 3 points for the Vikings.  Maddie Guler had a team high 8 assists and came up with 3 steals. Other top rebounders for the Vikings were Greta Tollefson (8 rebounds) and Morgan Berg (7 rebounds).


Lady Vikes on road, host Crooskston at home Friday, Feb. 17

The Pelican Rapids Lady Vikings play at Lake Park on Tuesday night, Feb. 14, and then travel to Barnesville for a boys/girls doubleheader.

On Friday, Feb. 17, the girls basketball team hosts Crookston in a makeup game.


Autograph night Feb. 17 after girls BB game with Crookston

“Autograph Night” is Feb. 17, as the Pelican Rapids Girls Basketball team invites young fans to line up to meet Lady Vikings after the game.

The autograph session will follow the home game aganst the Crookston Pirates.
