The Pelican Rapids girls basketball team traveled to Thief River Falls on Tuesday night, Jan. 31 and came up short 48-44.
“We started off a little slow but we battled back in the second half to give ourselves a chance to win the game in the second half,” said coach Brian Korf.
The Prowlers jumped out to a 4-0 lead and then Sarah Thompson drained the first Viking basket. The Vikings struggled to slow down the inside game of the Prowlers in the first half. At halftime, the Vikings found themselves down 26-15.
In the second half, the Vikings battled back by slowing down their inside game and scored 29 second half points. The Vikings allowed 22 second half points. The Vikings cut the lead to two points with one minute left in the game but the Prowlers made free throws to seal the victory. “We were pleased with our effort in the second half,” commented Coach Korf.
Adriana Torres and Sarah Thompson had 12 points each to lead the Vikings in scoring. Maddie Guler had 6 points while Kaylie Isaman and Morgan Berg scored 5 points each. Greta Tollefson added 4 points for the Vikings.
Berg pulled down eight rebounds, Torres pulled down 7 rebounds, and Guler and Thompson had 4 rebounds each. Isaman distributed six assists to lead the Vikings while Thompson and Guler dished out 3 assists each.
