University of Mary Athletic Director Roger Thomas and Northern Sun Commissioner Erin Lind have announced that nine Marauders scholar-athletes will receive the 2017 NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award.
Earning the award for their academic and athletic success are senior Mary student-
athletes Andrew Beyer, Katelynn Engh, Catherine Gibbens, Sommer Haugrud, Hannah Larson, Isaac Lindquist, Michelle McGeary, Zach Podoll and Melanie Rodriguez.
Haugrud, a sprinter for the women’s track and field team from Pelican Rapids, is pursuing a degree in Occupational Therapy. Haugrud graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 2013.
Now in its eighth year, the honor is named for the late NCAA President Dr. Myles Brand and bestowed to senior NSIC student-athletes who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or higher, are exhausting their athletic eligibility and are on track to graduate.
A record- number 141 student-athletes from the NSIC’s 16 institutions will receive the award in 2017, nine more than last year’s previous record. Each student-athlete will be recognized by the NSIC with a certificate of achievement and a wrist watch.
