The Pelican Rapids girls basketball team traveled to Wadena on Friday night and returned home with a 53-48 victory over the Wolverines, improving their season record to 7-8.
“We came out flat and played flat until the six minute mark before halftime,” said coach Brian Korf.
The Vikings made a nice run right before halftime to have a twelve point lead at halftime 36-24.
In the second half, the Wolverines battled back to tie the game around the five minute mark 45-45. The Vikings held the Wolverines to one basket in the last five minutes of the game. “We played well defensively in the closing minutes and did a nice job of handling the ball,” said Coach Korf.
Adriana Torres had a double-double for the Vikings, scoring 19 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. Morgan Berg had 8 points and 2 steals and Kaylie Isaman scored 6 points and came up with 3 steals. Greta Tollefsen had 6 points and Sarah Thompson and Rachel Gottenborg scored 5 points each. Maddie Guler added 4 points, dished out 6 assists and came up with 3 steals.
The Vikings will play at Thief River Falls on Tuesday and will host Frazee on Friday. On Friday night, it is a boys/girls doubleheader. The girls varsity game will start at 6:00 p.m. and boys varsity will follow.
