0The Pelican Rapids boys basketball team traveled to Ulen January 17 to face the NCE-UH Titans.
The Vikings left their offense at home as they struggled all game to get anything going on that end of the floor. They were down 36-12 at the half and ended up falling to the Titans by the final score of 62-22.
“This was easily our worst offensive performance of the season,” stated head coach John Gullingsrud. “We had some okay looks at the basket in the first few minutes of the game, and when we didn’t get those to fall, we really started to force things and play very undisciplined basketball.”
Carlan Haugrud led the meager Viking’s offense with 6 points.
Jacob Gottenborg led the team with 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. Pelican Rapids only managed to hit on 11-50 (22%) field goal attempts and were 0-7 on threes. The Titans outrebounded Pelican Rapids 46-30, with 16 of those being offensive rebounds.
“We need to do a better job of executing and working for great shots on offense even when the shots may not be falling,” said Coach Gullingsrud. “Our offensive struggles to start the game eventually affected our defensive intensity as well, as we started breaking down and giving them easy offensive possessions and multiple offensive rebounds. You just cannot let that happen when you are playing good teams at this point in the season.”
